Teddy

From the beginning of penning “Forestine,” the character Teddy began to reveal himself to me in a deeper way that I could not let fall by the wayside. While we get a good glimpse of his integral spirit in the first musical, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was only scratching the surface of who he was, since his presence in the show revolves solely around Forestine and Ezra’s interactions with him. Ever since I’ve been compelled to give more context about his nature, his thoughts, desires, and the foundational upbringing that led to him becoming the dream husband that Forestine held up on a pedestal long after his untimely death. I am ecstatic to shine a brighter spotlight on his personality in this song cycle, along with all of the experiences that shaped him. It is designed to be a prequel to my musical “Forestine.”

“Teddy” explores the life and backstory of the young man who stole Forestine’s heart (and mine), through his own lens, growing up as a model child of the Black bourgeoisie in the late nineteenth century.

“Teddy” will feature five original extended songs.
